FESTIVAL PROGRAMME - DETAILED ITINERARY
SEMINAR - AFRICA
IN FOCUS
Day 1, Monday 27 August Time :
13H00 - 15H00
Venue: Hall 6a
Filmmakers have done a wonderful job of projecting a view of African Nature into the world and encouraging a high regard for Africa as an unparalleled repository of wildlife. However, there is a widely held view that filmmakers could and would want to do even more but for the obstacles that are often thrown in their path – e.g. punitive park fees and bureaucracy. Given the great PR film exposure can give the continent, it would be worth smoothing the path ahead of filmmakers. And how should this be managed between locals and internationals?
How in our films about Africa can we keep the magic of the wild, but broaden the view to include that ‘other’ Africa - the cradle of humankind, the crucible of so much cultural diversity, filled with wonderful, hospitable people. How do we as an industry project a better view of Africa as a whole?

FILM SCREENING -
AFRICAN BAMBI, FILMMAKER EVERT VAN DEN BOS
Day 1, Monday 27 August Time :
13H00 - 15H00
Venue: Hall 6b
African Bambi is the real Bambi story, a very personal story of
our main Gazelle characters Grant, Tomi and Imp. This story is
told from the point of view of a mother Giraffe, who herself
hides a painful memory only to be revealed towards the end. The
young fawns are at the very start of their big adventure and
they grow up learning about the threats that challenge all the
creatures of the bush; cheetahs, jackals and hyena’s. Along
their travels they face fires and starvation. Over time, our
Grant learns the ways and wiles of becoming a mature male
gazelle; a handsome, fit creature, horns aloft in a gesture of
defiance against the fates of the grassland. Meanwhile Mother
Giraffe takes care of a happy ending.

SEMINAR - THE FUTURE IS: NEW MEDIA
Day 1, Monday 27 August Time :
15H00 - 17H00
Venue: Hall 6a
What do the buzzwords “New Media” actually mean and is it the face of the future? Can it create new revenue streams for the wildlife filmmaking industry? Should we be investing in it? How far is Africa behind other countries or are we leading the pack? How are our local broadcasters incorporating new media and what do producers need to think about in our submissions? What are the new business models associated with the convergence of broadcast, mobile, internet and On Demand TV?
Is the broadcasters monopoly on filmmaking coming to an end? With more and more films being made without broadcaster finances or help, viewed on cell phones, posted on internet sites such as U-tube and myspace, sent over emails and podcasts, is this a short-lived fad or a real revolution that will change wildlife filmmaking forever? How do we succeed in this arena? Does it affect distributors and how they do business?

Day 1, Monday 27 August Time :
15H00 - 17H00
Venue: Hall 6b
At the border between heaven and earth, all you can hear is the
wind. Looking down from a height of almost 4,000m, the blue sky,
the white clouds, and the black rock are imbued with the beauty
of heaven and of earth. Standing so close to heaven, a
conversation with the earth seems in order. Be inspired by these
mountains, and be dazzled by their fearsome crags, in which
majesty combines with brute power. Whether you want to
experience nature, find inspiration, or simply delight in life
itself…whatever your reasons, you are sure to find your answer
in the high mountains of Taiwan.
