FILM SCREENING -
DIVE TO TIGER CENTRAL, FILMMAKERS BRENDA SPAAN, PETER LAMBERTI, CANDICE VAN DER VALK
Day 3, Wednesday 29 August Time :
11H00 - 13H00
Venue: Hall 6b At nearly 20 feet in length, with hundreds of razor-sharp teeth and weighing over 1,300 pounds, the tiger shark is one of the world's best-equipped predators. Nicknamed the "ocean's garbage disposal" for their not-so-picky eating habits, tiger sharks are believed to be solitary animals. However, each year, tiger sharks gather en masse off the coast of South Africa near Aliwal Shoal and then, as suddenly as they appear, they vanish. South African shark expert Mark Addison has a theory that these sharks are actually the same individuals year after year — and he hatches a plan to prove it via satellite tracking. To do so, Addison free-swims without an oxygen tank, a shark cage, chain mail suit or scuba gear, to allow him to tag the sharks with a tracking device — risking not only being bitten by the sharks, but also drowning. Q&A with:
Brenda Spaan – Producer
Peter Lamberti – Camerman/Producer
Candice van der Valk - Editor

The adventure will start at the Skeleton Coast of Namibia, and then travel inland to encounter one the most uniquely adapted species, the Desert Elephants of Namibia. SEMINAR
- HD DELIVERABLES FOR EDITORS AND PRODUCERS
Day 3, Wednesday 29 August Time :
15H00 - 17H00
Venue: Hall 6a
Twenty years ago a young filmmaker could go into the bush with
any 16mm camera, and dream big, because all 16mm film was
broadcast quality. The final product could be sold to any
broadcaster anywhere in the world, as long as the product was
good enough. Today a young filmmaker has to make major decisions
before he or she goes into the field. There is always more
confusion about HD cameras and technology than there is answers
- and budget is, as always, a factor. The choice he/she makes
when it comes to choosing a camera, will determine whether the
final product will be broadcast down the line or not.
What level of HD is acceptable, and how will different levels of
HD, should they be acceptable, influence commissions and/or
acquisitions? Do the broadcasters and the filmmakers even know?
