Michaela Strachan, UK Wildlife Celebrity Presenter together
with Nothemba Madumo, South African TV Presenter, will be your hosts on the
night of the ROSCARS. Delegates at the Festival will enjoy a lavish gala evening
event and dancing in the banqueting hall of the ICC Durban, sponsored by
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. The gala evening is the highlight of the 4 day festival,
it includes a delicious dinner, complimentary drinks, local singers and
entertainment, the announcement of the ROSCAR Celebratory Award winners,
followed by a disco. It will be televised and many VIPs have been invited. It
will be a night to remember!

Leonardo DiCaprio’s The 11th Hour will be screened in South Africa at Durban Wild Talk Africa. The feature length film documents the environmental crises caused by human actions and their impact on the planet. However, the most powerful element is that it offers hope and solutions and calls for a future now within our grasp that is both sustainable and healthier. The film will be screened on 28 August at 15h00, at the Sun Coast Casino.

An overwhelming number of entries have been received for the ROSCAR Celebratory Awards, over 100 entries from over 13 countries. Film entries will be screened across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban at selected Nu Metro cinemas, from 10 – 16 August 2007. In an innovative step the public will be asked to cast their vote, instead of a panel of judges. Entry closed on 30 June 2007.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, organised by the Natural History Museum of London and BBC Wildlife Magazine, will be exhibited for the first time in South Africa. The exhibition consists of 94 prints of the very best photography worldwide featuring natural subjects emphasizing the beauty, wonder and importance of the natural world, and will be showcased at the Durban Wild Talk Africa festival.

The ROSCAR Award for the best Environmental/Conservation Campaign is dedicated to the memory of Rick Lomba. The winner of this category will receive the NTVA Rick Lomba Floating Trophy which was donated to Wild Talk Africa by the National Television and Video Association's AVANTI Awards in memory of Rick Lomba.
The NTVA honoured Rick Lomba, who was tragically killed by a Bengal tiger in 1994, during the filming of the Luanda Zoo rescue operation for Carte Blanche, a leading magazine and actuality television series. He was one of the South Africa’s foremost environmentalists and produced the award-winning documentary “The End of Eden”, and “South African Environments into the 21st Century” with Clem Sunter.

H .E. President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, of the United Republic of Tanzania will be addressing the delegates at this year's conference.
President Kikwete was elected as the fourth President of Tanzania on 21 December 2005. Before assuming the Presidency, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, a post that he held for ten years, other portfolios include Minister of Finance, Minister for Water, Energy and Minerals and Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals. President Kikwete loves nature and the wildlife, his favourite spot is the Serengeti National Parks in Northern Tanzania which has been recently declared the seventh tourist travel wonder of the world.

Dr Ian Player has become a patron of Wild Talk Africa and Adrian Gardiner will be the guest speaker at the ROSCAR Celebratory event.
Dr Ian Player is one of Africa's greatest conservationists. He saved the White Rhino from extinction, and was founder of the Duzi Marathon, Wilderness Leadership School, Magqubu Ntombela Foundation, the International Wilderness Movement and the World Wilderness Congresses. He was keynote speaker at all eight World Wilderness Congresses, which have been held in various parts of the world and a speaker at various business conventions. He has written numerous papers and publications and is the author of several books. He is a trustee of many organisations as well as being a patron to some.
Adrian Gardiner is a passionate conservationist, a visionary and an astute businessman. With the philosophy of giving back to the land he has dedicated himself to preserving the environment through his work. He is the owner of the Mantis Collection which includes, the world famous Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape . He is vice-chairman of the Wilderness Foundation, a partner of the Born Free Foundation in South Africa and an advisor to the Premier of the Eastern Cape for the Economic Advisory Council. |
